While it seems that this time will never come, it jumps out at you unexpectedly. Kids go off to college and you seem to be left with an empty house filled with memories. While some people prefer to keep their kids’ rooms untouched, others want to enjoy this new stage of their lives and start remodeling.

When you were a child, did you think of your dream house? The time has come to make the dream come true. You now have an extra room (or rooms), which you can turn into anything you wish. If you seem to be out of ideas, here are a few.

Media Room

Can you imagine having a movie theater inside your own home? An extra bedroom can help you do the trick. Turn it into a media room by equipping it with a large screen TV or a big white screen with a projection camera. Invest in a high-tech acoustic system, LED black lights, and more. Furnish your new media room with comfortable sofas, armchairs, hammocks, beanbags or anything else that comes to mind. You can also rebuild the walls by creating special niches for the speakers.

Gym

Do you have a treadmill hiding in the basement? You probably hang your laundry on it instead of shaking off the extra pounds. The reason is the location. If you have a fully equipped gym in your home, you can enjoy exercising much more than when you have to go through the rounds of pulling out and dusting the equipment.

The gym of your dreams can have all types of exercise machines. It must feature a wide-screen TV, nice speakers, and your favorite music. Equip the room with a large mirror and make sure it has bright lighting. Once you have a personally designed and beautiful gym, you’ll notice how much more enjoyable your exercising routine becomes.

A Study + Library

Do you often have some work to take home or perhaps you need a comfortable place to do your taxes? Most people do these things in their bedrooms, living rooms or even kitchens. If you have an extra room, you can add substantial comfort to your everyday life. Create a mini-office or a study in your home and you’ll always have a place to do your business.

Studies usually feature a table with a desktop computer, a comfortable chair, and a sofa. Perhaps you’ll enjoy reading your favorite book there as well. Then you can turn the study into a part-time library. Nowadays, when the paper books are becoming outdated, having an extra room for a library doesn’t make sense. However, combining these two rooms can create a wonderfully cozy space.

Bathroom

This is a tough one to do but the results are worth it. If your home has just one bathroom with a shower cabin and you’ve always wanted a whirlpool bathtub, the time has come to make your dream come true. Of course, it will take some time to deal with the plumbing so you may need to do some room reshuffling, but in the end, you’ll be happy you did it.

Consider turning a room in a fully equipped bathroom since it may be very useful when you have friends over or when kids come to visit.

Guest Room

If you often have visitors and kids love to drop by during the holidays, a guest room is a must-have. Even if you already have one room like this, a second one is an advantage. A guest room should have a bed and a small closet. The rest is up to you. Allow your imagination to run wild when decorating the guest room
